Lighting Essentials [workshop]

I signed up to take a weekend lighting workshop with Don Giannatti over at lighting-essentials.com .  When I saw Don was coming to San Diego I jumped all over it. It was a great workshop for the price and I can honestly say I learned quite a bit although at times the photo shoot felt a bit like paparazzi meet. If you are just learning to light off camera and are looking for a good value workshop, go check out Learning to light. The one thing that did bother me was photographers from other groups shooting our setups if they liked what they saw.

The first half of the first day is pretty much spent introducing you to all the lighting toys, and a few sample shoots from Don. The rest of the workshop is just groups shooting models with Don jumping into each group offering advice on light placement, settings, mods, etc.

At the end of the first day we switched from shooting in the studio, to shooting down at the Torrey Pines State beach.  The sun was already down, the clouds were in, it was a bit chilly and windy, and there was no parking.

While some of the other photographers persuaded their models to wear something skimpy, I a was diggin the warm Eskimo look Michele had going so we stuck with that. Bare 580EXII with some warming gel, and really would have liked a softer light but with very limited time we just grabbed some lights and hit the beach.
